We love the drama, don’t we? Argentina at risk of missing the World Cup? We are all over it. The chance of the best player not being at the premiere footballing event in the world? We are all at the edge of our seats. What will happen?
Argentina was faced with a must win game tonight. It was literally WIN and go through, or draw/lose and hope that the mathematics would work in their favor. They delivered. Messi essentially said: “it will not be because of me that Argentina does not go through,” and promptly scored a hattrick to get his team to the Promised Land. Add one more jewel to the crown that makes him a legend for his performance while his team’s back was against the wall.
The other qualified teams in the CONMEBOL include Brazil, Uruguay and Colombia with Peru going to the playoffs for a potential spot in Russia. Chile, the reigning Copa America champions, saw themselves out of contention after losing to 3 nil to Brazil.
Argentina joins 21 other countries all over the world who have punched their tickets for the World Cup. 11 spots remain. Will we see any more surprises?
