The month of August brought the arrival of Fantasy Premier League and its less interesting cousin, the English Premier League. The former brought with it a lot of excitement and joy in the form of a 100 million pound budget which all of us were happy to invest. The first four gameweeks of the season had many managers reaping dividends on their investments while others have had their money pour down the drain.
Before the season started, Salah and Sterling were the attacking midfielders to stake huge money on. Both of them have delivered so far with 37 points and 36 points in 1st and 2nd place respectively. However, let’s pause and talk about Kevin. Man City’s Belgian pass-master has returned to his best form and is assisting for fun. He is tied with Salah as the 2nd highest scoring midfielder.
At the back, Liverpool defenders were popular picks despite being quite expensive. Trent and Van Dijk (who is currently in 50.8% of all FPL teams !!) are among the top 5 for defenders despite gaining only one clean sheet in four games. Digne from Everton and the perennially underappreciated Patrick Van Aanholt are the top-scoring defenders on 23 and 24 points respectively.
Upfront, Harry Kane has flattered to deceive. He smelled as good as vanilla against Villa after scoring twice but stank the place out against City and most especially against Newcastle at home. No such problem for the Kun who was in tune, night and noon. Sergio Aguero has 40 points, the highest total by any FPL player so far. Although with Gabriel Jesus getting ready to be resurrected after the international break and Pep’s fondness for rotation, you have to wonder if Sergio’s surge would be curtailed soon.
One striker who would definitely not be rotated is the Finnish who finishes so accurately. The man who has inspired FPL managers partying too much and probably puking; Teemu Pukki. The Norwich striker has 5 goals in 4 games and his total of 37 points is second only to Aguero, overall. Other players who have had a surprising impact like Pukki include the Chelsea duo, Tammy Abrahams and Mason Mount. The Blues of Chelsea have been feeling blue for most of this season, but these two players could easily brighten your FPL squads if they keep up their points return.
