Zinedine Zidane is back at the wheels at Real Madrid and with an open hand in transfer matters, have already set the wheels in motion. Both Madrid and Barca have their no 9s on the wrong end of 30 and were hovering in the transfer market for a replacement or a successor which they will need to do eventually. Both Suarez and Benzema are fine players, especially Suarez being a generational striker who has started his decline steadily in the last season and so and its not an easy task to find replacement for such players. Barca has been rumoured to be scouting Luka Jovic for last few months, especially after the Serbian’s fantastic ongoing season and breaking out on the scene at Frankfurt. Naturally Barca were interested in him and were also keeping tabs on Piaztek and Maxi Rodriguez.
However during the last few months, Barcelona had entirely focused their attention on Jovic ahead of the likes of Piaztek and Maxi, since the scouting department pointed him out as a natural successor to Suarez. There is a good reason for that too. Suarez has been a generational striker not only for his scoring rate and regular moments of genius. In addition to them he has an extremely high work rate and never ceases to press the opposition defence with his never say die attitude. Also his link up play, ability to hold the ball and vision are also exceptional. He is a good dribbler, decent in the air, can play wide, has a good left foot and fantastic set piece abilities. In short, he is as complete a forward as one can get. Piaztek though a lethal finisher lacks the energy and hussle of Suarez. Also his link up play and ability to hold the ball also needs improvement. Maxi Rodriguez is similar in style to Suarez, but he lacks the ability to play on the wings and needs improvement in scoring and finishing department. Other players such as Werner are completely different style wise and perhaps might not suit the style of Barcelona
Jovic on the other hand ticks all the boxes. His all round abilities as a forward have already started attracting discussions regarding similarities to Suarez and Lewandowski. Also he possesses a good work ethics and is never shy to press high all over the opposition defence, a trait similar to Suarez. His link up play and ability to hold the ball is good too. Piaztek is perhaps a better finisher at this moment, but Jovic has perhaps the higher ceiling backed with a desire to succeed as well as suitable work ethics. Naturally Barcelona decided to target Jovic to succeed Luis Suarez and were said to be at the verge of securing the deal.
However, recent news from Germany is that Madrid has swept in at the last moment and have secured Jovic over their arch rivals. They are rumoured to have tied him down with a six year deal. It is said that with the recent troubles in goal scoring matters, Zidane pointed out Jovic as the future Madrid striker and went all in for him. They get a double boost, not only they have secured an excellent player in a department they needed reinforcement and have locked down the position for years to come, since Jovic is only 21. At the same time they have denied Barca from strengthening a position which Barca too require to reinforce, and now with Jovic gone, their is no suitable replacement left in the market. This will be a major coup for Madrid as they hope to embark upon another dream run under Zidane.
However during last few months, Barcelona focused entirely on Jovic since the player had readily impressed their scouts as a natural fit in place of Suarez.
