Eedris and David joined us to do a full end of season review for Chelsea FC. They handed out player, managerial, and board ratings on a scale of 1-10. Some binary numbers here
As the quarter-finals kick-off tomorrow, here are my quick predictions for probably the best UCL champions quarter-final draws in a long time
PSG – Atalanta: PSG are missing Veratti, but managed to get Mbappe fit in time for this one. Atalanta defense has been leaky recently, however, their whirlwind attacking football that Gasperini has conjured up will catch PSG cold. They will not see this coming. I’m going for the Atalanta upset and a high-scoring match
Barca – Bayern: Bayern are still my favorites to win it all, extremely well-coached team that is full of serial winners and so much speed and different ways to beat you. If Barca score 1st and Messi happens, this could be a tasty tie. Still picking Bayern
Leipzig – Athletico: Simeone must be “licking his lips” at a Timo-Werner less Leipzig side who’re also playing their 1st UCL Quarterfinals. This will be a tight affair as Nagglesman will see Simeone coming. I go with A.Madrid to nick it in extra time
Man City – Lyon: This will be a lot closer than people imagine. Lyon gave City lots of problems in the group stages. Man City will go through just because Pep understands how robust and battle-ready this Lyon side is.
Let us know your predictions for this round?
We had Arsenal fans join us for the 2019/2020 end of season review. Henry, Karim, and Steven joined Eejay and Ayo. We handed out player ratings for the whole squad and the manager and we also did a FA cup review.
By Eedris,
The full FootieFantasy crew got together and recorded an extended episode to draw a close to the longest EPL season in history. We gave the end of season awards to different categories which ranged from Team of the Season, Player of the season, and Manager of the season.
We had Dayo join the footiefantasy crew of Eejay, Ola, and Ayo to discuss the reversal of City’s ban regarding FFP’s decision. We also ranked all-time EPL teams with a focus on this Liverpool team and did final top 6 and relegation predictions with projected points
The Zaza
Every United fan should be looking forward, after looking backward.
From November to January, things looked bleak for Manchester United, the club was suffering on and off the pitch -it was a distressing time, nightmarish. The situation was so bad that some evil fans threatened the chairman and his family. Don’t forget how bad things were, we should not forget, the players and fans suffered mentally -it was clear that following United was becoming unhealthy.
In hindsight, the events of the past year have been good overall, but the last five months were quite abnormal -the turnaround was freakish. United played exceptionally since February, but fate also had a hand in this, two things that were out of their hands turned positively, Covid-19 and Leicester City. The lockdown was beneficial to the squad in two key details; it gave them the chance to get their key players healthy. Without Rashford and Pogba back, United do not have a chance at UCL qualification; you could say the same about Greenwood, and he bulked up during the break.
No matter how good The Red Devils’ form has been, look at the amount of collapse it too for is to touch Leicester, The Foxes’ implosion is incredulous, almost unexplainable.
There are many positives to take from this season, especially wrt the players. Rashford became a man this season, that man endured so much abuse and did not wilt, he instead became more important, a reliable actor, Antony Martial also grew up, became a real number 9, he took massive strides this season. United now has two proper full-backs Wan Bissaka and Shaw (another one who benefitted from the break); it increasingly looks like Pogba will extend his contract.
I let this name speak for itself: Mason Greenwood.
Another name: Bruno Fernandes.
Manchester United will finish the season as one of the most exciting teams in England; I look forward to watching them next season if they qualify for the Champions League and complete the deals they seem intent on making.
The Zaza
Manchester United’s tactics were horrible today, the team did not play well, but it all came down to one player.
Despite their domination, Chelsea did not cut the United team up; they created only one clean chance the whole game -the third goal. United’s players protected their goalkeeper for most of the game, but he did not give his teammates anything back. It was a tight game minus David De Gea, he cheaply conceded the first goal but the second goal was even worse -it was almost criminal. My friend, Emmanuel, said, “I had my mouth open for 30-40 seconds.”
No one could deny the psychological effects of those two goals, given the critical times they went, just before and just after halftime, they were deflating. As the side tried to climb out of the first error, the man dropped a grenade in the hole -the man killed them. De Gea was responsible for this loss; the boys had no way back from his errors.
I have given up on De Gea; I don’t believe he comes back from this.
Now something else.
Who is responsible for scheduling these fixtures? How does a team play an FA Cup semi-final two days after an equally important league game? This decision was even worse because the other side played 48 hours earlier.
I am not trying to make excuses, The Blues deserved their win, but that was bloody unfair; if you ignore the part, does anyone believe that two days rest before a semi-final is fair?
This robbed Man United the chance of putting out their best 11 for one of the showcases of the season -this was a trip to Wembley, for crying out loud!
We had Real Madrid fan – Otto and Barca fan – Yinka join Ola and Ayo to discuss the relentless title procession of Madrid and the woes of Barcelona. We also looked ahead to their tricky 2ng leg UCL ties in a few weeks
On this episode, Zaza, Ayo, and Yemi discuss the variations of building football teams and discuss the possible best approach
